But I Don't WANT To...

Following is a devotional reading from Elisabeth Eliot. I subscribe to her daily devotionals through Back to the Bible, and every day there is something in my in box that challenges and encourages me.

I wanted to share this one with you:

How to Do the Job You Don't Really Want To Do

Certain aspects of the job the Lord has given me to do are very easy to postpone. I make excuses, find other things that take precedence, and, when I finally get down to business to do it, it is not always with much grace. A new perspective has helped me recently:

The job has been given to me to do.
Therefore it is a gift.
Therefore it is a privilege.
Therefore it is an offering I may make to God.
Therefore it is to be done gladly, if it is done for Him.
Therefore it is the route to sanctity.

Here, not somewhere else, I may learn God's way. In this job, not in some other, God looks for faithfulness. The discipline of this job is, in fact, the chisel God has chosen to shape me with--into the image of Christ.

Thank you, Lord, for the work You have assigned me. I take it as your gift; I offer it back to you. With your help I will do it gladly, faithfully, and I will trust You to make me holy. ~Elisabeth Eliot

Be blessed, my friends.

She is a wise lady. Very "tuned in" to the Lord's voice. Was she the one that said once, "Wherever you are, be ALL there?" Or was that her husband? Or another? Do you know by any chance? I quote it all the time and don't know who to give the credit to.

Interestingly enough...this is something I really needed to hear as I embark on another week.

Thanks for stopping by!

Our lesson last night at church was on the import of work for a believer. That everything we do is to be done to the glory of God, trusting that even when we don't like IT or are struggling with IT, that God is using IT to sanctify us for His perfect will.

A treat to read this post this afternoon and be reminded that what I've done today and still have to do is for Him.

I found this quote so interesting...not for the wisdom...which Elisabeth Elliot has in abundance...but for this:

" I make excuses, find other things that take precedence, and, when I finally get down to business to do it, it is not always with much grace."

I cannot imagine this of her. It is good to be reminded that we all struggle as we strive to become more Christlike. It helps to keep hero worship on the right Hero.

I do so appreciate Elisabeth Eliot's heart and wisdom. I'm thankful we are able to share such thoughts freely. May it always be so. Thanks for posting this.

I needed this today to remind to get back on the task at hand for work and home.
Thanks for that today!

Food for thought... Yummy! :o)

I guess this means I can't take my cue from The Kid any more... When faced with an unwelcome task, she just stomps her feet and yells that life is unfair... LOL

Could you and Elizabeth get off my toes please? LOL

That devotional was definitely meant for me.
